Women's Association of Romania (AFR)

Founded in 1990, AFR aims at promoting of the real status of women in Romania. AFR has over 9550 members in Bucharest and in other 20 centres from all over the country. The pragmatic approach to different challenges that Romanian women face provides the Association with a large audience among women. AFR is the first democratic women's organization founded soon after the Revolution in December 1989, as a result of a necessity for unification, organization, representation and protection of women rights in Romania

The National Confederation of Romanian Women (CNFR)

Founded in 1990, the confederation aims at promoting women in activities that would assure equal chances in obtaining their rights and mobilizes the energy and experience of women in attaining equal chances in all fields

Association for Women Entrepreneurship Development (ADAF)

Founded in 2001, ADAF focuses on leadership, education, networking support, national and international recognition for business women. Although it was recently set up, the association ADAF is the result of some accumulations by time, due to the evolution of business woman community, and it is destined to harmonize the efforts of the other similar organizations, based on a long experience of the founding women members in programs, especially those meant for promoting the entrepreneurship. ADAF's mission is to promote the woman's role in the context of economy globalization and to support their participation in the economic development. The goal of the association is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves grow professionally and personally through leadership, education, networking support, national and international recognition, by using updated means of information, communication and management.

Center for partnership and equality (CPE)


CPE CPE is committed to mainstreaming the principle of equal opportunities for women and men into the public policies and associated practices, as an integral part of democratization and the creation of an open society, in order to re-define the status and improve the condition of women in Romania
CPE supports initiatives and runs programs and projects that aim at raising awareness within the Romanian society in regards to women's present condition and the role they can and must play in the social development of our country.
CPE advocates for the following rights: non-discrimination against women, the right to education, the right to be free from violence, equal opportunities for women and men, reproductive and sexual rights, a gender -inclusive approach to development, economic rights for women, women's active involvement in public life.

Association for the Promotion of Women in Romania (APFR)


The Association for the Promotion of Women in Romania was founded in 1997 as a branch of IKON Foundation Galati. In the beginning, the organisation supported families with many children by distributing donations in form of clothes and food. During this period, more specific needs of the Timis County women became obvious, indicating the directions where actions needed to be taken. APoWeR resulted in 1999, its goal being to ensure the women of Timisoara and Timis County services they needed: social work, free representation in the Court of Law, psychological counselling, access to income generating programmes and an emergency telephone line for women and girls victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

    APFR mission is:
  • To educate the whole society by promoting affirmative and non-discriminating policies in order to improve women's quality of life.
  • Target group:
  • Girls and women victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and trafficking.
  • Women in politics, management, media, NGOs and administration.
  • Women from the rural area and disadvantaged social environment.
  • Convict women

    Objectives:
  • To raise society's awareness regarding human rights, domestic violence and democratic policies through educational programmes oriented towards topics of social concern, in the absence of any form of discrimination
  • To provide support services concerning the identification, psycho-social intervention, free legal representation in Court and the integration of disadvantaged women with disfunctional families or women victims of domestic violence and trafficking, on the labour market.
  • Lobby and advocacy in order to promote legislation and adequate legal practices which offer protection for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and trafficking

Equal Opportunities for Women Foundation (SEF)


Founded in 1996, equal Opportunities for Women (SEF) Foundation is a local human rights organization (based in IASI, Romania) that promotes equal opportunities for women and men, working in the benefit of women and carrying out the appropriate activities in their protection and defense.

SEF mission is to promote equal opportunities for women and men by supporting women's efforts to raise their standing and visibility in their professions and communities, so they may contribute to the greatest possible extent in Romania's economic, social and political transformations

SEF aim is to increase and support women's participation in decision making in politics and public life at local, national, regional and international level; to promote and support women's participation in community development at local, national, regional and international level; to foster solidarity among women involved in both democracy building/consolidation and political life at local, national, regional and international level; to defend both women's human rights and interests by evaluating policies and social programs' development at local, national, regional and international level.
